Grassroots Cattle Co, a grass-fed beef operation in south central KS, includes a small registered herd to raise replacement bulls and females for our own use with a few for sale every year. Muddy Creek Ranch (MCR) is a leader in Lowline genetics and producers of many Champions. MCR just won Grand Champion Bull at the Denver stock show. MCR has a herd of Commercial Lowlines that are raised and sold through local restaurants. All of our cattle have been ultrasound and proven to produce predictable offspring.

These rigorously selected Lowline genetics have been raised on a forage diet successfully for the Thousand Hills Grass fed program and have been harvested at the Lorenz beef processing facilities at Cannon Falls, Minnesota. We are the first importers of the Lowline breed from Australia where they were developed by the New South Wales Department of Agriculture from a dwarf free set of Registered Angus cattle selecting for small mature frame size over 30 years in a closed herd with 14 different sire lines. We routinely see ribeye areas of 1.3 to 1.6 square inches of Ribeye per hundredweight which translate into incredible red meat yield on a highly marbled carcass raised on a forage diet.
The Central Grasslands Research Center has been using our genetics for the last few years for calving ease on first calf heifers and forage finishing the resulting halfblood offspring. The Halfblood Lowline steers out of our genetics had an average carcass weight of 593 when slaughtered at 18 to 24 months off a forage based diet. Their frame score generally was in the frame score 2 to 4 range.
The grain fed Lowline cross steers in this trial were fed an average of 130 days after forage only for an average 684 pound carcass weight, average yield grade 2.6 and 100 % choice carcasses.
