Randall Hastings

I am Randall Hastings, a third generation farmer that along with my two sons Randy and Jody produce and market 100% certified organic grass fed beef and lamb and pasture raised pork. We also grow and market certified organic corn, soybeans, wheat, and blueberries. Our farm is located in Southwest Ala., in Bay Minette, Ala. We have 450 acres certified organic and we feed no grain to the cattle or sheep their entire life, all grass finished. The hogs are fed a grain ration we produce here on the farm and of course no antibiotics or hormones for all the livestock. We use Rotokawa Devon and South Poll bulls on our Angus based cow herd, Katahdin sheep, and heritage bred hogs to produce what we feel is a quality product. We do extensive work on our native grasses and legumes to keep a salad bar year round for our animals to graze.

I was born and raised along with my 6 brothers and sisters on a dairy farm in Bay Minette, Ala and live in the farm house I grew up in. I am widowed, have 2 sons, 3 grandchildren and a wonderful fiancé. I am a lifetime member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, board of director for ASAN(Alabama Sustainable Ag Network), past Regional VP, past county president, and current board member of Alabama Cattlemen Assoc., County supervisor for Baldwin County Soil and Water Conservation District, Board of director of Gulf Coast RC&D committee, and an active sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. I have raised cattle and hogs my entire life of 62 years and started into the grass fed end of it about 15 years ago. We have had to make many changes from traditional farming to try and make the farm sustainable. Every day we learn more and hope we make the right decisions.

Going organic is not nearly as hard a most people think it is here in the south and I am convinced this is the right thing to do for our future generation. It is good for the earth, good for the animals, and good for us as human beings.
