Claire Herminjard is the Co-Executive Officer of Marin Sun Farms, Inc. and the Founder of Mindful Meats. Marin Sun Farms, Inc. is a vertically-integrated meat company, bringing farm-direct meats to market under two brands, Marin Sun Farms and Mindful Meats, while operating the only USDA inspected slaughter facility in the San Francisco Bay Area. Passionate about creating diversity in the meat industry, Claire dedicates her work to building markets for grass-fed, pasture-raised, certified-organic, and non-gmo meats by building relationships to supply a wide scale of markets – from Michelin-starred chefs to public school districts.
Mindful Meats gained national recognition for being the first meat company of its kind in two ways: by transparently marketing beef from mature, organic dairy cows and by certifying their beef with Non-GMO Project. Mindful Meats worked in collaboration with the USDA and the Non-GMO Project to create a protocol by which meat products can be marketed as non-gmo and carry the Non-GMO Project Verified seal on their packaged products, opening the flood gates for a new meat market in the United States. By championing the superior flavor of the pastured organic dairy cow, Claire has helped move forward the demand for mature meats in the United States. She is most motivated by finding progressive dairying families who prioritize being environmentally beneficial to supply Mindful Meats.
Marin Sun Farms is the Bay Area’s leading supplier of California sourced grass-fed and pasture- raised meats. The first to bring 100% grass-fed and finished meat to market in the Bay Area under Founder David Evans, Marin Sun Farms paved the way for other brands and ranch-direct meats. Beginning in 1999, Marin Sun Farms has grown from selling frozen beef raised by David at farmers’ markets to supporting dozens of farming families with shared values in California under the Marin Sun Farms brand. Marin Sun Farms took over the local slaughter facility in 2014 when it came into duress. Marin Sun Farms now processes only farm-direct grass-fed, pasture-raised, and organic meats under its brands and keeps USDA inspected slaughter services available to the greater ranching community.
In 2017, Claire and David merged companies to manage both brands and Co-Executive Marin Sun Farms, Inc. Married, they raised certified-organic, grass-finished young beef using management-intensive grazing techniques on their ranch in the Point Reyes National Seashore. They marvel at their ability to produce great beef with zero inputs and their land’s production of six-foot high grass during the growing season. Claire has been recognized as a Forbes 30 Under 30 entrepreneur and one of Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Next Generation.See All Speakers
