Change Is In The Air!

This past winter I had the opportunity to travel to 22 states and 2 Canadian Provinces and visit with over 13,500 individuals who were interested in regenerative agriculture. The majority of these individuals attended the workshops because they were interested in changing the way they do business. They realize that the current production model that most are using today is having negative ramifications on their resources.

I also noticed that there was a contingency of consumers that attended these workshops. These consumers were there because they wanted to know not only who produces their food but how it is produced. They realize that much of the food being produced today is not healthy, it is not nutritious and it is not nutrient dense. For proof I offer this: the United States spends more on health care than any other country in the world yet we are the 42nd healthiest country in the world. Obviously this is not all due to the lack of nutrient density in our foods but we, as producers, are kidding ourselves if we do not believe that we need to take some of the responsibility.

The good news is that we can not only regenerate our resources and increase the nutrient density of our foods but we can make a healthy profit while doing so. The key to doing this is with pastured livestock. Grazing animals, wither it be beef, dairy, bison, sheep, goats, hogs or poultry are a necessity.

Day three will offer attendees a myriad of topics. Popular writer Mark Schatzker will share his insight on consumer preferences. Dr. Daphne Miller, author of the popular book, Farmacology, will share her insights on nutrient dense foods and how healthy soil equates to healthy food. Two round table discussions will delve into our changing industry and ranch succession.
